  College tuition

  Suspend the program offering in-state tuition to residents of border counties. They go out of their way to not pay WA sales tax, so they are not supporting our schools, the state is just giving them a free handout. Also, end the program offering in-state tuition to 'undocumented' students. If you're not a resident of WA, you pay out of state. if you're not a citizen of the US, you don't get to go to a WA college without ...more »

  Stop cutting funding for Higher Education

  In our effort to balance the state budget, Higher Education has landed on the chopping block. I believe this is a gross mistake. Washington needs to continue to attract and retain the best and the brightest if we expect to sustain our economy for the future. Lets not become so short sighted in a time of economic crises as to threaten our future.

  Encourage and expand vocational Education.

  Not all students are ready for a college track while in high school. Offering quality vocational education is a wonderful alternative to our kids wasting away and bored to death in high school. This training gives them the skills to join the work force and become responsible citizens. This can also delay going straight to college after high school.   Not all students are ready for a college track while in high school. Offering quality vocational education is a wonderful alternative to our kids wasting away and bored to death in high school. This training gives them the skills to join the work force and become responsible citizens.

  This can also delay going straight to college after high school. Many of our youth are not ready to go to college but feel the must or they are failures. Working at a job for which they trained can give them real life experience and maturity before they go to college. This would make these youth more successful in college.

  It's time that we saw the benefits of real vocation education. Bright Future, in Seattle is an excellent program to look at for a model.

  Stop penalizing the unemployed for taking college or trade school classes

  End the exclusion from unemployment of college students. To grow the economy we need to grow the skills of the work force. Besides a lot of students work either full or part-time while being college students, so it is discriminatory to penalize them for going to college (or trade schools).   End the exclusion from unemployment of college students. To grow the economy we need to grow the skills of the work force. Besides a lot of students work either full or part-time while being college students, so it is discriminatory to penalize them for going to college (or trade schools).

  Unemployment insurance was originally intended to support seasonal workers such as in road construction during the non-construction season, but few people actually enjoy being ideal and many construction workers are not good at budgeting seasonal income with year around needs.

  College on-line

  Provide more on-line classes and make them slightly cheaper than classes in brick and mortar situations. My child is taking an online class with three instructors that she never met (even once) and yet still had to pay full tuition like she was taking up classroom space and electricity. I know not all classes can (or should) be offered online, but there are many that can be done this way, freeing up classroom space ...more »

  Provide more on-line classes and make them slightly cheaper than classes in brick and mortar situations. My child is taking an online class with three instructors that she never met (even once) and yet still had to pay full tuition like she was taking up classroom space and electricity.

  I know not all classes can (or should) be offered online, but there are many that can be done this way, freeing up classroom space for classes that do need face to face time (like sciences classes with labs, or sociology, education, psychology or human resources classes) .

  Teachers write cirriculum for schools

  Why not have local teachers write cirriculum? They already are paid for the summer and to get Masters and Doctorates. If 50% of school cirriculum from Elementary, Secondary, and College was written by local teachers, we would be using local talent and saving money by using an untapped resource.
