I disagreeStop prosecuting all victimless crimes. Prostitution, pot, etc. All these laws are based on the so-called moral majority (who are neither.) Stop spending our tax money to lock people up for having sex or getting the same buzz they get from a state store selling spirits!

I disagreeReview the fines and sentences for so-called "white collar" crimes and in many cases increase them substantially .

I disagreeI would suggest that we require a license to utilize our many bike lanes. The bicylist would be required to wear the proper helmet and reflective gear just like a motorcyclist. A yearly $25 license and fines for non compliance.

I disagreeI suggest you have the police and courts enforce a strict no litter policy on our roads and freeways charge a higher fine and garnish work wages or revoke license if unpaid.
GA and UT roads do not look near as bad as ours do. They enforce this is their states. Use this money to balance the budget.

I disagreeCreate a program to allow for 1 year of work release and 6 months home monitoring for people in prison. This would eliminate 1 year of the current prison time (on average $34,000 per person) and gives DOC more control when a person has been released from prison. I disagreeCollect on back traffic tickets of ALL kinds. Either pay up or your drivers license and vehicle license can not be renewed. Just think of the millions in revenue this would generate in just one year. If you can not drive, most would pay their tickets. Also set up as program to make payments, miss a payment, license is immediately revoked.

I disagreeFree up the courts by charging a flat fine of $50 for any speeding ticket up to 10mph over the limit (excluding school and construction zones). Further, such tickets would not be reported on the driver's abstract (unless 3 or more are received during a 1 year period), thus greatly reducing the number of people contesting minor speeding tickets and allowing for judges to concentrate on the issues they are needed for: ...more »

A border crossing from Canada doesn't take as long as these safe boating inpections do!
Tax money being wasted!

I disagreeExclusion from state benefits. If you are convicted of any offense above a threshold or perhaps more than one you are excluded from any state welfare, tuition and other assistance programs for a minimum of 10 years or perhaps life.

I disagreeIn this State we have (6) large State Universities. Each University has its own State funded Police Department. Annual cost 25 million or more. Elimination of University Police Departments and contracts with local jurisdictions would probably save one half to one third of those costs.

In addition, the State should require all person operating bicycles on this state's roadways to register and pay for such a privilege. In addition, I have observed many bicyclists operating on roadways, but failing to follow the basic rules of the road like everyone else. Bicyclists should be required to pay for the privilege as well as pass a test demonstrating basic 'rules of the road' knowledge.

I disagreeEliminate duplications of state services. The State operates two law enforcement academies - the CJTC and the WSP Academy. Do we need two or can't all the officers be trained at the same academy? This would save money in overhead, administration, operating costs and the land of one could be sold off with the money being returned to the state.

The Washington State Patrol (WSP) operates the only statewide law enforcement communications center. All statewide and several federal law enforcement agencies contract with WSP for law enforcement dispatch duties. Agencies include the Department of Fish and Wildlife, Department of Natural Resources, State Parks, Liquor Control Board, and the US Forest Service. Agencies prefer to contract with WSP for dispatch duties simply because it is a lot easier then contracting with the 39 county dispatch centers. However WSP charges a fee for every time a law enforcement officer from an agency I listed uses their radio. These fees range from $2.5-3.5 (depending on the agency) per “click” of the microphone, so just for one officer to sign on to duty costs between $5-7 since there are several transmissions required.
There are two issues I see with this.
1. A state agency should not be charging another state agency for services
2. I know for a fact that law enforcement chiefs from the agencies I listed have told their officers to use their radios less because of the financial issues. This means that officers are putting themselves in dangerous situations simply because of the budget. In a city or county every time an officer steps out of their vehicle they notify dispatch, officers for the agencies I listed do not do so because it would have astronomical costs for their agency.
I propose that WSP no longer require a fee for state agencies to use their dispatching services. Why should one state agency charge a fee to another state agency? It’s simply a waste of dollars, money that is allocated to one agency is actually going to WSP, and that is wrong! I have no problem with WSP charging non-state agencies such as the US Forest Service Law Enforcement since they are not a state agency. But WSP is putting those agencies officers in dangerous situations simply because of money.

I disagreeSupport the electronic license application & renewal process for nurses. This would be more efficient, user-friendly, and permit the reallocation of current resources handling the manual process. We are out of step with the rest of the country. I assume this could apply to other professions in our state.
